Hi, I'm Taequez Davis.

I was born and raised in Norfolk, Virginia — November 30, 2000. Grew up my whole life in Norview. I was the kid with good grades who stayed out of trouble, the one people assumed would go off to college and become an engineer. But around 10th grade, life looked different. I was fending for myself for school clothes, and college started feeling further and further away.
I first learned about credit in 11th grade. I was researching constantly — authorized users, credit cards, how people get a head start. The only problem was I didn't know anyone with good credit who could add me. So when I turned 18, I handled it myself. My birthday was on a Friday. That Monday I walked into Navy Federal, making $8.10 an hour at Harris Teeter, and came out with a $2,500 Cash Rewards card.
I told my family and friends what I was learning. Most of them didn't budge. Credit wasn't something people wanted to talk about — it felt like luck. But I kept going. Fast forward to 2026: I have over 22 credit cards, almost 50 total accounts, 7 vehicles, and I just closed on a 3,000 sq ft family home on 4 acres for $520,000.
Now I want every young adult to know this: when you turn 18, your life is your choice. And the best way to get started is with credit. I coach because I wish someone had showed me this earlier — and because I know the difference a clear plan can make.
